Integration of the TLS (teaching learning sequences) into the curricula of Sweden, Germany, Spain, Poland, Rumania




Sweden

Goals that pupils should have obtained in school. Pupils should:
  • have acquired the basic knowledge in mathematics needed to be able to describe and manage situations, and also solve concrete problems in their immediate environment. Within this framework, pupils should have a basic spatial understanding and be able to recognise and describe some of the important properties of geometrical figures and shapes (Mathematics, 5th year of school, pupils 12 year old)
  • have insight into the fundamentals of ..... as well as the properties of light and the function of the eye (Physics, 5th year of school, pupils 12 year old)
  • have an insight into how light is propagated, reflected and broken down, as well as how the eye perceives light (Physics, 9th year of school, pupils 16 year old)

Germany

Goals that pupils should have obtained in school. Pupils should:
  • find out about one-and more-dimensional structures and their size and shape (Mathematics, 6th year, 12 years old) : use axle-symmetrically and point-symmetrically to describe two- and three-dimensional shapes
  • find out about one-and more-dimensional structures and their size and shape (Mathematics, 8th year, 14 years old): comprehend and establish properties of shapes by symmetry
  • Nothing in the curricula concerning the three natural sciences

Spain

Pupils should be taught:
  • Symmetries in astronomy (inferred from observational data, used to construct explanatory models)
  • Symmetries in Physics (unbalanced forces…..)

Poland

National Curriculum

Mathematics is a coherent and precise way of interpreting the world. Within general educational aims it is taught to give pupils the basis to solve, in the language of math, problems from various aspects of life (lower secondary school, 7th year of compulsory school, 13-14 years).

Specific goals:
  • getting to know the definition of basic isometric transformations
  • recognizing whether a figure has symmetry, and of what kind
  • analyzing regularities in many objects (buildings, ornaments, also examples from animal and plant world)

Rumania

Goals and examples of learning activities:
  • knowing and understanding phenomena, terminology, concepts and methods specific to the field
  • developing the capacities of exploring/investigating reality and of experimenting by using instruments and procedures
  • developing the capacities of analyzing and solving exercises and problems
  • developing the capacities of communication by using the specific language

Mathematics (7th –8th) 13-14 years
  • to use symmetry, translation, rotation to solve problems
  • to justify the properties of some geometrical configurations based on symmetry
  • to analyze and design geometrical shapes with axial or central symmetry
  • to identify the axis of symmetry of a geometrical shape
  • the centre of symmetry and the axis of symmetry of polygons

Biology (7th) -13 years
  • to design and do experimental activities regarding the types of levers inside the body and their role in supporting and movement
  • the making of mammal-physiological and anatomical characteristics
  • the loco (motion) system

Chemistry (7th) -13 years

the structure of ionic substances; crystals; molecules; chemical formulas

Physics (7th) -13 years

the mechanical equilibrium of bodies; the gravity centre; simple mechanisms
