My research activity concerns primarily with peat-producing ecosystems,
that is bogs and fens.
On the whole, my studies aim at assessing:
a) the relationships between plant community types (described in
terms of floristic composition) and MICRO-ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS (evaluated taking
into account water table fluctuations, pore water chemistry, and peat
chemistry);
b) the effects of GLOBAL CHANGE in relation to the consequences of increased
atmospheric NITROGEN DEPOSITION on bog functioning;
c) the rates of PLANT LITTER DECOMPOSITION in bogs in relation to
micro-environmental conditions and plant litter quality.
I was also involved in a further research topic concerning the “BIOMONITORING”, that is the use
of mosses to evaluate the quality of atmospheric precipitation.
