The use of modern brain imaging in traditional neurophysiology brings many advantages. A specialized software tool fit for exploiting the wide range of potentials of modern imaging techniques, is of undisputable importance, especially for non-human primate brain research. We developed a software tool facilitating the necessary virtual manipulations of imaging data in an easy and automatic way. Our software visualizes individual MRI/CT images and 3D reconstructions of bone/brain structures in parallel. It allows simulation of electrode penetrations with different angles and targets, creates a database of the coordinates of the penetration sites and visualizes them on the cortical surface or within the brain to display neurophysiological functional maps on the awake animal.
